McGee shared the bad news on his Patreon, and in his final post he announces that Electronic Arts has decided not to finance the filming of Alice: Asylum. The publishing giant doesn’t want to sell you the license either, meaning plans for a third Alice game are off the table. Quoting McGee:
“We have exhausted all options to create a new Alice game. With these responses from EA, there is no other way to move forward with the project. As such, we will be pausing this page Patreon and pre-production related activities. Content will remain, but we will no longer present options to fund ‘Alice: Asylum’ through this (or any other) platform.”
Obviously, it’s been a blow to him and the team, and that’s certainly one of the reasons why he’s taking the opportunity to announce he’s taking a long break from the gaming industry, and the ton suggests he’s taking a long break from the video game industry.
