Special prosecutors for Alec Baldwin’s trial have issued a statement that he may still face a “further investigation”.

Baldwin is facing manslaughter charges following the tragic and fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust due to a weapons-related incident.

The statement read: ” In recent days and in preparation for the preliminary hearing on May 3, 2023, new facts have come to light that call for further investigation and forensic analysis in the case against Alexander “Alec” Rae Baldwin, III.

“As a result, we are unable to prosecute within the current timeframes and on the basis of the facts and evidence provided by the police in their current form. We will therefore dismiss the manslaughter charges against Mr. Baldwin for further investigation.

“This decision does not exonerate Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability and the charges may be reinstated. Our follow-up investigation will remain active and ongoing.”

This also extends to the gunsmith in charge of the film, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who could also face charges, despite recent reports to the contrary.

Deadline reported that specially appointed prosecutors are seeking to have manslaughter charges against the two individuals dropped in the near future.
