Darby McDevitt has shaped the games in the Assassin’s Creed series for many years, as the main author of the stories Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Assassin’s Creed 2: Discovery and Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. Now he no longer works at Ubisoft.

Ubisoft needs a new lead author for Assassin’s Creed

“Today is my last day at Ubisoft Montreal,” McDevitt said in a tweet.

“After a decade of working with brilliant people, creating stories and characters for an incredible series, and interacting with our wonderful fans, I’ve decided to start a new adventure.”

Darby McDevitt was instrumental in the decision to turn the action game series into an RPG series. What he will do next is not known. But he thanks the fans for the great time at Ubisoft:

“Special thanks go to all of the fans and content creators who have supported and expanded our work over the years,” says McDevitt. “Thank you for your kind attention! You have my deepest respect and admiration. It has been the honor of my life to meet so many of you.”

Ubisoft also finds words of praise for the former author of the Assassin’s Creed series. A tweet said, “Thank you @DarbyMcDevitt for your immense contribution to the brand. The stories and characters you have created will always be cherished by the Assassin’s Creed community. May the wind on your next journey become yours Blow in favor!”
