A 3D animator and fan of mii customizable from nintendo —playable characters in games like Mario Kart Tour—, has developed a character creator inspired by Nintendo’s Mii but made with Unreal Engine 5.

Introduced with the release of the Nintendo Wii in 2006, Miis are characters that belong to Nintendo’s own universe, rather than having origins in specific franchises.

The characters are known to have starred in various Nintendo titles, including Nintendo Switch Sports, the little brother to the Wii launch title Wii Sports.

Both titles focus on the Mii’s participation in various sporting events, and in the latter, the player must replicate actions such as golf moves and ball throws with the Wii Remote.

Inspired by the Mii’s unique art style, developer Nick Ladd learned to replicate similar yet distinctive characters for a character designer named Lil Ladds.

Before Lil Ladds came out, Ladd was already a 3D animator for companies like Meta, Nickelodeon, and TEDtalks. While learning to design games with Unreal Engine 5, he used Mii as inspiration for the project.
