Walmart is giving full refunds to customers who use autopay: who is eligible and what you should do
According to the claims, according to Walmart, this charge incurred in its autopay systems and now that the problem has been detected, it is offering a full refund of this charge, which is related to Walmart+ memberships.
Walmart has been in the eye of the storm for a few weeks now, first, the closure of more than twenty locations across the United States, then the scandal over some gift card fraud, and now the company is being rocked by claims from several customers who were charged $49 for a Walmart+ membership.
According to the complaints, Walmart says this charge was incurred in its autopay systems and now that the problem has been detected, it is offering a full refund of this charge to those who were charged without requesting it or those who accidentally requested it.
The original price of a Walmart+ membership is $98 dollars, but during its promotional event called Walmart Plus Week, which took place from July 10-13 as a mere idea to compete with Amazon Prime Day, it offered its memberships at half the cost, i.e. at only $49 dollars per year.
The problem occurred when the membership appeared as just another offer on self-pay devices, automatically. There were only two options to choose from: “I’m not interested” or “Add the membership to your shopping cart”.
The issue that was detected was that several customers took the option without realizing it, since with a single click, the transaction was done. There was no confirmation legend of the membership purchase.
In this regard, a Walmart spokesperson told Best Life: “We noticed some customer confusion with this process, which led us to remove the ad”. In the same interview, he extended the invitation to all those who purchased the Walmart+ membership in error and promised that the full cost ($49) would be fully refunded.
“Any customer who inadvertently took advantage of this offer on a self-pay and did not activate it can get a full refund with proof of purchase,” the Walmart spokesperson added to Best Life. “Customers can work with in-store associates to receive a refund,” he explained.
Walmart has been implementing the self-pay system for several years now. “This new payment process is designed to help customers complete their purchases even faster,” the retailer explains on its U.S. website.
