Warner Bros. Discovery is working on an animated film based on the TV classic, The Flintstones.
As part of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival last weekend, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery is working on an animated film based on the TV classic, The Flintstones. The news was revealed by Bill Damaschke, the president of this new division of Warner Bros. Discovery, adding that it would not be the only one, Deadline reported.
Like so many other changes the company has gone through, Warner Animation Group has now become Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. The name change pays homage to the legacy of the team that has produced major titles such as The Great Lego Adventure and Happy Feet: The Penguin. Damaschke told the media that the new name is a recognition of the company’s rich history and past, which has released films that have left a mark on the film industry, directed by a group of renowned filmmakers such as Brad Bird, Tim Burton, George Miller, Robert Zemeckis, among others.
“It’s honouring the company’s rich history and past. Warner Bros Pictures Animation released films like Steel Giant, Space Jam, Corpse Bride, The Polar Express, Happy Feet and The Great Lego Adventure, landmark films that broke new ground, new technologies, new ways of storytelling and were successful, artistically and commercially. They live on in people’s hearts, every one of those films,” he said.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s goal is to release two animated films a year, including Scooby!, DC League of Super Pets and Space Jam: A New Age.
Regarding the Flintstones movie, it was learned that the working title is Meet The Flintstones and will focus on an origins story. Although it is in the early stages of development, the script is being written by the duo Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who were responsible for writing Super Mario Bros. The Movie, the film adaptation of the famous arcade video game character developed by Nintendo that took the box office by storm upon its release.
