The commemorative box set includes the Marvel Studios film in 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray format. Plus a digital code to watch it online. The inside of the metal box features Tony Stark in the iconic Mark III armour as he flies home from Gulmira after stopping the Ten Rings. This Iron Man steelbook will go on sale on Wednesday 13 June.

The film that forever changed cinema history

Without a doubt, if Iron Man had not been a hit in 2008 the landscape of cinema today would be very different. Inaugurating the now colossal UCM, the success of Jon Favreau’s film allowed visionary producer Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios to make more films based on the House of Ideas comics. Despite the hint of The Avengers in the post-credits scene, the group superhero movie probably wouldn’t have happened if the first Stone had failed.

And if the world had never had Iron Man or The Avengers, other Hollywood studios would not have stubbornly tried to replicate the shared universe model of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while those attempts at interconnected storytelling have largely failed, the mere fact that studio executives are relentless in their efforts to follow in the footsteps of the MCU speaks volumes about the success of this shared universe that has been so successful in the film industry.
