The new season “Germany’s next top model” starts at the beginning of February. The broadcaster has now announced which participants are fighting for the title. It has never been as diverse as this time.
Heidi Klum is again looking for “Germany’s next top model” this year. The 17th season of the ProSieben casting show starts on February 3rd. But this time everything is different, as you can see from the candidates that the broadcaster has now presented. You can see all 31 participants here in our photo show.
Diversity will be even more important in 2022 than in previous years. “There are small, very tall, curvy, slim, young and older participants,” Heidi Klum had already announced in the run-up to the shooting. And indeed: three mature women between 50 and 70 years have made it into the cast.
The oldest candidate in GNTM history
At the age of 68, Barbara even writes broadcast history because she is the oldest GNTM candidate of all time. And the first with naturally gray hair. She hasn’t colored them for a long time, as she revealed to the news agency spot on news.
Her family is fully behind her TV experiment: “My grandchildren are thrilled. They say: ‘Grandma, I think it’s great and you can do it.’ They gave me courage,” says Barbara. In a way, she also sees herself as a role model: “I’m definitely setting an example for all older women. There are so many pretty women who just don’t dare.”
A mother-daughter duo enters
This has also never happened before at GNTM: 50-year-old Martina started with her daughter Lou-Anne. “We registered separately,” admitted the Austrian spot on news. “I then urged my daughter to do it, but didn’t tell her I signed up too.” In the end both were invited. The show does not want to steal the 50-year-old from her daughter. “I want her to be empowered and come out of here with a lot of confidence.”
As in previous years, curvy models have the chance to become “Germany’s next top model”. One of them is the tattooed Lenara, who you can see with all the other candidates here in our slideshow. The 24-year-old wants to spread a message on GNTM: “I think everyone should love themselves the way they are and you don’t have to conform to any ideals of beauty.” That’s why she’s looking forward to dropping the covers in front of the camera. “Then I can show how comfortable and good I feel.”
Last year, a curvy model even made it to the final, with Dasha taking second place. For the first time, a transgender model won Heidi Klum’s talent show. Alex Mariah Peter was voted the most beautiful girl in Germany in May 2021.
