Inditex and Infinited Fiber Company have announced a collaboration agreement. This has the common objective of promoting innovative technologies to advance towards textile circularity. Inditex undertakes to buy over three years, for more than 100 million euros, 30% of Infinna’s future production volume; a textile fiber made by Infinited Fiber Company and that can be created entirely from textile waste.

This purchase commitment is significant for Infinited Fiber plans. Said plans consist of scaling up its recycling technology through its first factory with a large industrial capacity; which will begin operations in 2024, the date from which Inditex will begin to buy Infinna.

Inditex Sustainability Innovation Hub

This project is part of the Inditex Sustainability Innovation Hub. It is an open innovation platform that works with start-ups, academic institutions and technology centers to promote and scale innovative initiatives for new materials; as well as technologies and processes that reduce the environmental footprint of fashion products and help move towards sustainable and circular solutions.

Infinited Fiber Company has developed an innovative solution to convert materials with a high composition of cellulose – such as worn garments – and cotton into the proprietary fiber Infinna. It stands out for its touch and appearance similar to cotton, and can be recycled again in the same process together with other textile waste. Through this fiber, Inditex will be able to continue minimizing the use of virgin resources and continue moving towards a circular production model.

As part of this collaboration, Zara has also launched the first capsule that incorporates this innovative fiber. On this occasion, it comes mostly from garments provided by Cáritas, an entity that collaborates in Zara’s used clothing collection programme. This collection combines Zara’s fashion trends with Infinited Fiber Company’s innovative textile regeneration technology. The garments are available worldwide through zara.com.

A very celebrated agreement

Javier Losada , Director of Sustainability at Inditex, pointed out that “we firmly believe that innovation is key to the competitive and circular future of the fashion industry; and, for this reason, we actively work in the search for new solutions based on new alliances, processes and materials that help us obtain new fibers from pre- and post-consumer textile waste”.

Petri Alava, CEO and co-founder of Infinited Fiber Company, stated: “Inditex is one of the largest fashion distributors in the world and this agreement is a significant step towards realizing our ambition of turning Infinna into a majority textile raw material. in the future. We are pleased to see the beauty of the designs that Zara has created and made available to its customers from recycled fibers produced in a sustainable way, a new demonstration of its versatility and the success that the combination of technology and design brings. We want to continue this collaboration with Inditex to make textile circularity a reality”.
