Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop is the first Massachusetts retailer to join the state’s SNAP Online Shopping Program

Stop & Shop now accepts EBT card payments from Massachusetts SNAP customers for online purchases with pickup and delivery

QUINCY – Stop & Shop announced today that Massachusetts individuals using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits now have the option of paying with an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card when ordering online at Stop & Shop to withdrawal or delivery.

“Offering online payments with EBT is an integral part of Stop & Shop’s commitment to serving our communities,” said Gordon Reid, President of Stop & Shop . “We are proud to facilitate access to healthy food, especially for those affected by the pandemic.”

The new easy user experience offers online food shoppers the option to add the EBT card to their accounts at StopandShop.com and shop with SNAP funds. While browsing the aisles online, SNAP customers can filter products to view eligible items, and a “SNAP Eligible” tag will appear in the product details. At the end of the purchase, customers can select the option “Apply for SNAP benefits” and the amount to be deducted from the EBT card, which allows personalized budget management during the month.

“Stop & Shop has been a strong partner in the Administration’s response to the public health emergency and in addressing food insecurity, so I am pleased that they are joining the state’s SNAP online shopping program,” noted the Secretary of Human and Health Services, Marylou Sudders . “Your participation in the program will help expand safe shopping options for individuals and families who use SNAP to help purchase nutritious and culturally relevant food.”

Massachusetts SNAP customers can use their benefits to buy eligible healthy food and grocery items online; however, they will need to use an alternate credit / debit card or checking account to pay for non-SNAP-eligible items, as well as driver fees, taxes, and tips. Stop & Shop orders for withdrawal are subject to a $ 2.95 fee. Stop & Shop orders for delivery are subject to a delivery charge of $ 9.95 for orders under $ 100 and $ 6.95 for orders over $ 100. As always, customers with SNAP benefits can also use their EBT card for eligible grocery and grocery purchases at any of the more than 400 Stop & Shop stores. What’s more, instacart.com/StopandShop .

“SNAP’s online shopping program has been a critical tool in our efforts to address equitable access to healthy foods across the state, providing more than 555,000 low-income families with the same shopping options as other customers.” said Department of Transitional Assistance Commissioner Amy Kershaw . “Expanding the program with the inclusion of Stop & Shop will not only support residents but provide financial assistance to this Massachusetts retailer and our communities.”

Residents can verify their SNAP eligibility and apply online or by phone at (877) 382-2363. SNAP will not affect your immigration status and is not considered in the public charge test.

Benefits from financial assistance programs received through the Department of Transitional Assistance, including Transitional Assistance for Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC), Emergency Assistance for the Elderly, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC), and State Supplemental Payments (SSP), they cannot be used to purchase products online at this time.
