Samsung Korea announced its efforts on technology that can unlock cars with the new smartphone “Galaxy S21 series”.

The technology revealed at the Galaxy S21 series announcement event uses ultra-wideband communication (UWB) on the Galaxy S21 + and S21 Ultra. And you can unlock vehicles such as BMW, Audi, Ford and Genesis without touching the vehicle. For models that do not support UWB, such as the Galaxy S21, NFC communication can be used instead.

For these efforts, BMW just announced a few days ago the Digital Key Plus, which can be unlocked on the iPhone. This is also a technology that uses the UWB function installed in iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and Apple Watch Series 6, and it is also possible to save or share the vehicle’s digital key on the terminal.

According to Samsung, this feature will be available as early as August 2021. Samsung is participating in the UWB digital key standardization organization “Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC)” and the FiRa consortium, in which Apple also participates, and it is expected that the number of manufacturers and models that support unlocking vehicles by UWB will continue to increase. Will be done.
