Pharmacy chains Walgreens and CVS, two of the stores that the federal government supplies with COVID-19 vaccines, have wasted hundreds of thousands of doses in recent months, according to data obtained by Kaiser Health News.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in late March revealed that 182,874 injections were wasted in the country over a three-month period.
CVS was responsible for almost half of those losses and Walgreens for 21%, which equates to about 128,500 wasted vaccines between the two pharmacy chains. CDC data indicates that Walgreens and CVS wasted more COVID-19 vaccines than all states and federal agencies combined.
