The mother of the Cuban arrested in Miami-Dade for raping a 12-year-old boy and then shooting him in the face spoke from the island and indicated that she could not believe that her son could have committed a crime like that and apologized to the family of the victim.
According to an exclusive interview conducted by Telemundo 51, Maira Santiesteban assured that despite being aware of the details of the case, she still refuses to believe that her son, Aliex Santiesteban, is capable of what he is accused of.
“It happened, but I as a mother do not believe it,” said the woman before the camera.
“I still don’t think so. I wish they would allow me to be by his side to ask him why he did it ”, added the old woman from Cuba.
The mother of the arrested person asked the family of the boy who was attacked by her son, assuring that no minor should go through what he went through.
“Something very big must have happened to him, because… I still don’t understand, I don’t understand (…) I am very sorry, as a mother, as a grandmother, everything that little boy is going through,” the woman declared.
Aliex Santiesteban’s mother indicated that on March 29, the night the Cuban was arrested, both spoke by message, as they always did, and indicated that she did not notice anything strange with her son.
“Everything was normal, he never told me or anything, that’s why I tell you that I don’t think so. I didn’t notice anything strange, but I’m sure they are going to punish him severely, I have to resign myself, this is a very impressive thing, “said Maira Santiesteban.
From the Island, she assured that she was resigned, because she is sure that she will not see her son again, something that will affect her emotionally.
“It’s the worst thing that has happened to me in my life, never seeing him again, never knowing about him again.”
The woman assured that her son was a good father and that he got along well with everyone in the neighborhood, however the detainee’s ex-partner indicated from the Island that this he abused his stepdaughter years before she left for the United States.
The Cuban was arrested on Monday of last week, after he kidnapped a minor from the streets of Miami-Dade over the weekend and proceeded to sexually abuse him.
The police report indicated that the boy fought Santiesteban, which is why he shot him in the face and left him in a vacant lot.
The boy survived and proceeded to seek help, until he arrived at an establishment where there were several people, who called 911.
