Last April 1, the Retiro Park completely opened after completing all the works to enable the central Madrid space after the damage caused by the storm Filomena during the month of January. The enclosure partially opened on February 22, but it kept 5 of its 17 doors and some of the interior spaces closed at the expense of being able to enable the area for public visits.

So, Visitors will be able to visit one of the most beautiful spaces in the capital from 06:00 am to 10:00 pm every day of the week. There you can enjoy 125 hectares and more than 15,000 trees, a pond where you can practice water activities, the Crystal Palace, walks to practice sports or the dozens of statues that are available throughout the park.

The storm Filomena brought with it the largest amount of snow that Madrid and other parts of Spain have recorded in long years of history. So much so that the collapse forced the suspension of communications and postponing the resumption of classes after the Christmas holidays.

Parks became dangerous places, as snow accumulated on top of trees and the risks of landslides and falls multiplied. Therefore, the authorities decided to close El Retiro and other parks in the capital until the revision, cleaning and replanting work allowed safe visits.

On February 22 they were already enabled 12 of the 17 entrances to the park: Puerta de Hernani, Puerta de Madrid, Puerta de O’Donnell, Puerta de la América Española, Puerta de la América Española, Reina Mercedes, Sáinz de Baranda, 12 de Octubre, The Puerta de Herrero Palacios, the Puerta del Niño Jesús, the Puerta del Ángel Caído, the Puerta de Murillo and the Puerta de Felipe IV. However, the Rosaleda, the Campo Grande or the Isabel II gardens were not open until yesterday.
