Finally, the head of the Health portfolio pointed out that, “the arrival of vaccines through Covax It gives us a very important boost to the position that Colombia has taken of always supporting multilateral mechanisms. This comes from the decision that has been made for the development of the expanded program of immunizations, since it is an ideal, balanced and equitable mechanism to have the best access to vaccines ”.
For her part, the representative of WHO and PAHO in Colombia, Gina Tambini, stated that “Colombia is the first country in the Americas to receive the covid-19 vaccine through the Covax mechanism, because they have been working hard to be ready, so that when the vaccine arrives it can be immediately applied in the territories; and also for having met all the necessary requirements to be considered among the 18 countries in the world and within this group four countries at the level of the Americas ”.
Additionally, he pointed out that “we hope that the vaccines from the AstraZeneca laboratory will also begin to arrive in the next few weeks. They have already been assigned, the minister has received a letter with this final amount and we hope that in the course of the next three months we can reach a distribution of more than 2 million doses from the AstraZeneca laboratory ”.
It is worth remembering that the first doses of the vaccine against covid-19 from the multilateral Covax mechanism in the Western Hemisphere landed this Monday aboard a DHL plane at around 1:10 pm at the El Dorado airport in Bogotá.

Of these, ten million will be manufactured by the American Pfizer, in alliance with the German firm BioNTech; while the The remaining ten million will correspond to the alternative developed by the British AstraZeneca, which had the support of the University of Oxford.
Ghana, an African country, has already benefited from the same system that on February 24 he received a total of 600,000 doses of the vaccine from that second lab. Such quantity reached the capital city, Accra.
