Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney for former US President Donald Trump and one of his loyal aides, “does not currently represent” the former president “in any legal matter,” Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller confirmed to CNN.
Giuliani, who was the mayor of New York and one of Trump’s main supporters during his term, led the judicial attempts to annul the results of the last presidential elections, which finally gave the victory to Democrat Joe Biden.
Miller, after making these statements to CNN, published a Twitter message on Wednesday in which he tried to clarify Giuliani’s relationship with Trump.
“There are simply no pending cases where Mayor Giuliani represents the president. The mayor remains an ally and a friend,” Miller said.
The chain recalls that Giulani’s work as a lawyer with Trump dates back years and that the former president had expressed his frustration with the former mayor last January, after becoming the first president in the history of the United States subjected to two political trials ( “impeachment”).
Trump asked his staff to stop paying Giuliani’s legal fees, a person familiar with the case told CNN, though his aides were unclear whether the former president was seriously communicating these instructions.
Out of office and without the protection that the presidency afforded him, Trump is currently facing multiple criminal, state, civil, and defamation suits.
Georgia officials have also announced that the former president must take on two new investigations into calls he made to election officials in an attempt to overturn the state’s election results.
And he is also facing a criminal investigation in New York, where the Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating whether the Trump organization violated state laws, such as insurance fraud, tax or other schemes to defraud, insists the chain.
President-elect Biden’s campaign lists the bizarre appearance as a “show” on Guiliani’s part, which only proves how “absurd Donald Trump’s completely discredited allegations are,” said Michael Gawin, a spokesman for Biden’s campaign.
Also, the largest civil rights organization for African Americans in the US sued Trump, his lawyer Rudy Giuliani and two white supremacist groups on Tuesday for their responsibility in the assault on the Capitol on January 6.
The lawsuit is an attempt to hold Trump accountable for what happened after his acquittal in the Senate impeachment trial, and was filed in federal court in Washington by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP, en English) and by Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson.
The former president has privately expressed concern about these allegations, a close adviser to Trump told CNN.
