INE presented challenges to Electoral Plan B (Archives)

As part of the approval of secondary electoral reform, better known as Plan B, various opposition groups to the government of Fourth Transformation (4T) called on citizens to demonstrate in defense of the National Electoral Institute (INE) for the series of modifications induced by the initiative.

The march initially called by the businessman Claudio X Gonzalez It was promoted by different civil organizations and by political parties opposed to the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), in order to gather in the streets to show their disagreement with the recent vote of the Senate Plan.

This protest would be the second to be carried out for the same purposes which, despite the efforts, did not prevent the approval of the electoral project promoted by the executive power.

The demonstration that will take place today is a matter of public concern because various personalities, including the still president adviser of the INE, Lorezo Cordoba, They accused the changes of undermining democracy.

This idea was even shared by American media such as The New York Timeswhich, under the pen of the journalist Natalie Kitroeff, underlined that the reform will restrict the operational capacity of the INE by reducing its personnel and its autonomy.

He has also been accused that the ability to sanction candidates who break election laws will be limited.

According to the statement issued by the organizers, the demonstration in the country’s capital will take place along the main avenues of the historic center starting from the Plaza de la Constitución (Zócalo) to go to the premises of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. , a dependency that is currently examining the various challenges to the initiative promoted by the head of the federal executive.

The protests for the same cause were not long in coming, because this February 25, a day before the official march, the former governor of Michoacán, belonging to the PRD, took to the streets of the city in a “mobilization” advance in defense of the INE.

With banners with caption March-Caravan in defense of democracy and with flags of the Sol Azteca party, marchers proceeded to the Monument to the Revolution to publicize their participation in the upcoming Pink March. This would be the second small mobilization led by the PRD, since a few days ago another contingent of sympathizers and activists showed up at the Palace of Fine Arts.

The march to be held on Sunday February 26 is expected to have a huge turnout, however, it is not guaranteed to be like the first of those held last. November 13.

The pink contingent will also be able to find another demonstration to be held on the same day, belonging to the fathers and mothers of Ayotzinapa after 101 months of enforced disappearance of the 43 normalists. The march convened by the Ayotzinapa Rural Normal School will focus on the Angel of Independence in the direction of Hemiciclo a Juárez located in the center of the country’s capital from 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
