“I have no doubt that the next Winter Olympics will be held at the highest level. China knows how to do it,” said Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Putin confirmed his visit to Beijing during a video conference with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that he will attend the opening of the Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20 next year, in a videoconference summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

“I am confident that in February next year we will finally be able to meet in person in Beijing. As we have agreed, we will hold negotiations. And then we will participate in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, ” said the head of the Kremlin.

He stressed that Russia and China support each other on matters of international sports cooperation, including “rejecting any attempt to politicize sport and the Olympic movement.”

“I have no doubt that the next Winter Olympics will be held at the highest level. China knows how to do it,” said the Russian president .

In turn, Xi indicated, according to the Russian translation, that he “eagerly awaits the Olympic meeting” with Putin.

“I am ready to go hand in hand with you, to open a new page together in Sino-Russian relations in the post-pandemic period,” the Chinese president said.

Diplomatic boycott

The United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games for human rights violations in China , a measure that the European Union is also studying.

Russia , sanctioned for state doping, will participate in the Beijing Games under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee and when its athletes climb to the top of the podium instead of the Russian anthem, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 will be heard.
