Samuel Chukwueze scored and set up as Villarreal came from behind to beat relegation-threatened Getafe 2-1 on Monday. With this victory, they ended a series of four consecutive defeats in the Spanish league.
Chukwueze scored in the 44th minute and put on Jose Luis Morales in the 52nd, after Enes Unal opened the scoring for the visitors in the ninth minute.
With this victory, Villarreal ranked seventh in the Spanish league and approached the last qualifying positions for European tournaments.
Villarreal’s last league victory dates back to January against Girona. They have lost to Rayo Vallecano, Colero Elche, Barcelona and Mallorca since then by an aggregate score of 9-3.
Getafe could have left the relegation zone with the win. The Madrid club remains penultimate, two points from permanence.
Barcelona have a seven-unit advantage over Real Madrid at the top of the table after 23 games.
