UNITED NATIONS (AP) – United Nations General Assembly President Csaba Kőrösi announced on Tuesday that Lebanon, Gabon and South Sudan had made enough payments to regain their right to vote in the governing body. 193 members, so they are no longer that Venezuela is the only country that is banned from voting.

In a plenary meeting of the assembly, Kőrösi said that the three countries had reduced their debts to the United Nations regular budget below the amount specified in the body’s Charter to disenfranchise a country.

The Charter states that nations will be barred from voting if their debt is equal to or greater than their contributions to the UN budget over the past two years.

Assembly spokeswoman Paulina Kubiak said four countries still had arrears, but the General Assembly passed a resolution last October to give three poor and conflict-affected countries – Comoros, Sao Tome -et-Principe and Somalia – authorization to vote until the end of the current session in September.

That only leaves Venezuela behind on its payments and unable to vote.
