Benfica won with a landslide and went to the quarter-finals

Gonçalo Ramos assisted with two goals in Benfica’s spectacular 5-1 victory over Club Brugge, for the UEFA Key 2 – Champions League 2022-2023. The goals of the match for the locals were scored by Rafa Silva (37′ 1T), Gonçalo Ramos (46′ 1T and 11′ 2T), João Mário (25′ 2T, penalty) and David Neres (32′ 2T). While the visitors’ goal was scored by Bjorn Meijer (41′ 2T).

Rafa Silva was applauded with his brilliant finish after 37 minutes in the first half. On a cross from Gonçalo Ramos, the midfielder defined with a precise shot in the opposite goal, from the large area.

Gonçalo Ramos put in a great performance. The Benfica striker shone by scoring 2 goals, kicking 5 and making 18 correct passes.

João Mário also performed well. The Benfica midfielder scored 1 goal, completed 28 correct passes and was encouraged to strike 4 times.

It was a match with few faults and no arguments with the judge. There were several warned: Roman Yaremchuk, Noa Lang, Nicolás Otamendi, Abakar Sylla and Bjorn Meijer.

Benfica manager Roger Schmidt presented a 4-5-1 tactical arrangement with Odisseas Vlachodimos in goal; Alexander Bah, António Silva, Nicolás Otamendi and Alejandro Grimaldo on the defensive line; Florentino Luís, Chiquinho, João Mário, Rafa Silva and Fredrik Aursnes in the middle; and Gonçalo Ramos in attack.

Meanwhile, Scott Parker’s men came out in a 3-5-2 tactical arrangement with Simon Mignolet in three positions; Clinton Mata, Brandon Mechele and Abakar Sylla in defence; Tajon Buchanan, Casper Nielsen, Hans Vanaken, Kamal Sowah and Bjorn Meijer in midfield; and Noa Lang and Roman Yaremchuk up front.

Halil Meler was the chosen referee for the match at the Do Sport Lisboa e Benfica stadium.

Benfica ruthlessly overwhelmed Club Brugge and will play in the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals.
