Tokyo, March 9. Japanese police have arrested three young men in connection with recent instances of unsanitary behavior at Japanese sushi chains, including licking the spouts of shared soy sauce bottles, footage of which has gone viral.

These are the first arrests related to these cases that have been made public. The detainees are Ryoga Yoshino, 21, 19 and 15, whose identity has not been released as they are minors under Japanese law, according to details given by Japanese authorities and collected by local media .

Authorities determined that Yoshino was among those appearing in viral videos licking one of the bottles of soy sauce usually shared between successive customers at a “kaiten sushi”, the conveyor belt sushi restaurants of Japanese origin. .

The incident happened at a Kura Sushi chain store in Nagoya, in the west of the country, on February 3.

Yoshino and his two companions recorded and shared the video on the internet, which adds to a series of similar acts carried out in establishments of this type since the beginning of the year.

The police made the arrests on the basis that the behavior of the young people constituted a commercial obstruction within the meaning of the Penal Code.

All of the suspects reportedly admitted to being involved in the crime, which the prosecution did not provide further details.

Images of diners performing unhygienic acts at “kaiten sushi” venues have gone viral, hurting the businesses of those restaurants’ operators, some of whom have taken legal action against those involved.

The videos, usually of short address and recorded with cellphones, show people sucking on the aforementioned soy sauce bottles, chopsticks or tea cups before putting them back into storage, people contaminating orders from other customers who travel on bands with external elements. EFE
