Three workers from Empresas Públicas de Medellín had an accident while carrying out maintenance work on the plant’s tank and their fate has not been known since.

Three EPM workers disappeared in Hidroituango on the morning of Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Empresas Públicas de Medellín reported that the whereabouts of company officials who carried out maintenance work are unknown.

According to the information provided by the entity, the workers were carrying out the work in the reservoir of the hydroelectric power station when they had an accident, of which no further details were given.

After the accident, the three EPM workers went missing. Two of the operators who had an accident in Hidroituango belong to the Asocomunal de Sabanalarga and another is a direct employee of EPM, according to the organization.

The company assured that once this fact became known, all attention protocols were activated, including calls to relief agencies and authorities, to begin the search work.

“After learning of the incident, EPM activated the service operation for these cases and the chain of calls, including relief agencies, for search and rescue,” reads the released statement. by the entity.

Likewise, the company assured that there is a team made up of the firefighters of the municipality of Sabanalarga, the EPM volunteer brigades and the Community Action Boards, deployed throughout the tank to help locate missing workers.

In addition, technological equipment, such as drones, is used to reinforce the monitoring works in the water mirror of the Hidroituango plant reservoir.

“EPM will support the families of the three workers with specialized personnel,” the company added in the communication.
