The Red Cross in Tijuana, Baja California, is in the eye of the hurricane after one of its paramedics was caught stealing money from an elderly woman who had just die.

According to reports, the event happened on February 11 at 3600 Grijalva Street in the Jibarito II neighborhood.

And it is that around 2:30 p.m. that day, three paramedics arrived at the scene to declare the death of Mrs. María de Jesús Cárdenas Castillo. However, one of them, identified as Pablo Rivera, with 22 years of experience in the institution, took advantage of the moment.

The surveillance camera the family set up to monitor her, due to her delicate medical condition, captured how the subject lies in the room, a short distance from the victim’s body, opens a bag and takes what appears to be Bills, which he wraps in one of his gloves then puts it in his pants and leaves the house.

According to the daughter of María de Jesús, this money was part of a savings that the relatives were building up in case of emergency and that they were now going to use for the funeral. However, they realized he was gone and viewed the video recordings.

They assured that the amount stolen was 45,000 pesos.

In this regard, Mario Gallegos Cárdenas, one of his sons, went to the facilities of the Red Cross and showed the recording to those responsible, but did not get the response he expected.

“They told me: wherever you go, here we are not going to give you anything back,” he said.
