The 3rd National Prize for the Novel “Sara Gallardo” will reward the best novel published by an Argentinian author in 2022

The Ministry of Culture of the Nation, through the Secretariat of Cultural Development and its National Directorate for the Promotion of Cultural Projects, opened this Thursday the call to participate in the third edition of the National Novel Prize Competition “Sara Gallardo”, a competition that seeks to recognize the creation and literary quality of the current narrative scene in Argentina, to disseminate the diversity of points of view and voices and to reward the best novel published in the last year.

The call, aimed at cis, lesbian, transvestite, trans and non-binary novelists of Argentine nationality, will be open until April 7. The main requirement is to have a novel published between January and December 2022, with print circulation in the country. novelist Paula Perez Alonso was the last recipient of this award with Kaidua novel about the love correspondence between humans and animals, while the writer Marina Yushchuk received the award in its first edition, in 2021, with its novel The corn.

Only one work will be selected and the winner will receive the sum of one million Argentine pesos as a prize. The awards jury may also award up to five honorable mentions without monetary compensation.

The choice of the name of this competition pays tribute to the Argentine writer and journalist Sara Gallardo (1931-1988), author of a singular and intense work which escapes cataloging, and which continues to surprise and challenge us today.

The launch of the competition is part of the commemoration of the International Day of Working Women, a date that summarizes a long history of struggles for equal rights, opportunities and participation of women and invites them to reflect and act on persistent inequalities, outstanding issues and challenges. This is a competition that aims to strengthen cultural policies with a gender perspective that accompany the achievements achieved by the LGBT+ and feminist movements in recent years, as well as to adopt measures that contribute to the eradication of disparities. existing and which guarantee equal opportunities. .

Participants must be over 18 years of age and without age limit, Argentine nationality or nationality by option or naturalization, residing in the country or abroad. Each participant can apply for a free theme novel originally published in Spanish or in the languages ​​of the indigenous peoples, provided that a Spanish edition is also attached. The submitted work must have a minimum length of 70 pages and have a first edition printed between January and December 2022 by an Argentinian publisher and with an Argentinian ISBN.

Novels may be presented by their owners, by the publisher to which they belong, or by a third party with the prior written consent of their owners. Registration is done online via the Somos Cultura platform. To apply, it will be mandatory to be registered or previously registered in the Federal Registry of Culture, then select the call “Sara Gallardo National Novel Award 2023” and complete the form with the information requested therein.
