Mexico City, March 8. Mexico’s Chamber of Senators will not authorize the entry of any foreign military force into the country, as this represents a violation of national sovereignty, the head of the Political Coordination Council (Jucopo) of the Mexican Senate assured this Wednesday, Ricardo Monreal.

“From now on, we tell you: the Senate and its majority will not authorize the entry of any foreign military force into Mexico,” said the coordinator of the ruling majority of the Movement of National Regeneration (Morena) during the meeting. ‘a press conference.

Monreal’s statements come after Republican lawmakers Roger Marshall and Rick Scott presented two proposals to Congress to authorize US military action against Mexican cartels.

This is in response to the case of four Americans who were abducted from the border town of Matamoros in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, where two of them were murdered.

Monreal, candidate for the presidency in 2024, maintained that it is “inadmissible” to accept that foreign troops enter the Mexican territory to fight criminals or crimes, as he said, “it is simply a violation of national sovereignty”.

Furthermore, he felt that the discussion of a possible military intervention by a foreign government should not be discussed, as he insisted that “it is unconstitutional, it would be a national tragedy if it happened”.

Monreal pointed out that this proposal is also linked to political campaigns for the 2024 presidential elections in the United States.

“It’s a delicate issue that sometimes comes up forcefully in elections in the United States and that Mexico is used as a piñata or an instrument of strike to obtain votes and the sympathy of its North American Republican voters”, a- he declared.

In this regard, he stressed that Mexico does not minimize the issue of organized crime, but urged US lawmakers to act with caution and promote collaboration between the two countries to combat this reality.

There must be reciprocity in the fight against drug trafficking, Monreal said, because the US government is not known for dismantling organized crime networks on its territory, since they only focus on Mexican cartels.

Regarding the incident in the border town of Matamoros, where two Americans lost their lives and two were injured, the lawmaker said he was “unfortunate” and said that the Mexican Senate sympathizes with the family of these northern citizens. -Americans.

This Wednesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador defended that the Mexican government “had acted well” in the case of the four Americans kidnapped, including two murdered, in the state of Tamaulipas in the face of growing claims from Washington.

“What happened yesterday, or the last few days, Americans, it’s very unfortunate that it happened, they did the right thing because they quickly found people, two dead, one injured, another well and this urgent situation has been taken care of,” the president said in his daily press conference.
