The government has enacted the law which declares November 5 of each year as Municipal Workers’ Day and it will be a non-working holiday. This measure is detailed in Law No. 31701, published this Saturday in the Bulletin of Legal Regulations of the Official Journal El Peruano.

In its sole article, the regulation indicates that this benefit is limited to workers who exercise the said responsibility within the local authorities of the country. He Municipal Workers’ Day will be paid and will be considered worked for all legal purposes.

On February 15, the President of the Congress, José Williams Zapatasigned the autograph of the law which declares November 5 of each year Municipal Workers’ Day and a public holiday. The measure will benefit nearly 7,000 municipal workers across the country.

It should be remembered that this initiative was definitively approved by the Congress of the Republic last February “in order to make visible and recognize the importance of the work of municipal agents in the various areas of their function”.

“We must take into account that national development starts from local administration with the direct participation of municipal workers,” said MP Isabel Cortez Aguirre, author of the initiative during the session of May 4, 2022, and highlighted the participation of these servers during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why they were considered “civilian heroes for being frontline workers”.

Likewise, the standard recognizes the effort and sacrifice of municipal workers, who enable the sustainability and good governance of our cities across our country, according to their promoters.
