The 12th edition of the Córdoba International Jazz Festival is here, and this time it will be bimodal.

From March 18 to 28, 2021, this virtual-face-to-face event will take place, organized by the Córdoba Culture Agency of the Government of Córdoba with the support of the Federal Investment Council (CFI) with face-to-face concerts and the best of the local scene. Between March 18 and 21, the face-to-face shows will be held at the Teatro Real, while from March 25 to 28 these shows will be broadcast virtually in order to be enjoyed digitally. The face-to-face grid includes presentations at the Teatro Real in the city of Córdoba, in Río Cuarto, San Francisco, Villa María and among the twelve points of the provincial circuit.

The festival, which usually takes place in November, had to be rescheduled for this month due to publicly known health reasons. In this way, the modality will be face-to-face at the Royal Theater and will have its virtual replica through the Córdoba Culture Agency networks.

The festival aims to make visible and professionalize musical activity, the growth of the genre and the development of new talents. This edition proposes an encounter with some of the most creative and original expressions of the continent’s music. As usual, the stable casts of the province will participate in the event. The opening will be in charge of the Symphonic Band of the Province and the closing of the Symphonic Orchestra of Córdoba.

The opening took place on Wednesday, March 10 from 11 am with the traditional caravan of vintage cars and New Orleans-style music from the Small Jazz Band. With the brilliance of traditional jazz and period dancers, the cars parted, in a promotional caravan in the style of the 1920s, traveling through the streets of the city to announce the beginning of this new edition of the festival. Thus, passersby are surprised in traditional points of the city of Córdoba such as Plaza San Martín, the Cabildo esplanade, Patio Olmos and Paseo del Buen Pastor.

The launch starring the caravan opened the photographic exhibition Jazz Play, a photographic installation that records the history of the Córdoba International Jazz Festival that results from a project that the photographers Marcos Allende and Julio César Audisio have been developing. The exhibition can be visited until March 26, 2021 in the exhibition hall of the Paseo del Buen Pastor.

For some years now, the stable bodies of the province have participated in the festival so, on the opening night of March 18, the Province Symphonic Band, directed by Maestro Andrés Acosta, performs with free admission and a repertoire composed of original works written and arranged for the occasion, by three young composers and arrangers from Cordoba: Nicolas Ocampo, Lourdes Fontana and Jorge Martínez. 

In this edition of the Córdoba International Jazz Festival, all face-to-face concerts will be held at the Teatro Real with a 60-minute program, adapted to current protocols. Thus, the public will be able to meet again with the most outstanding exponents of the genre. On the second and third nights, the traditional swing of the Small Jazz Band led by Pancho Castillo, the fine musicality of Mingui Ingaramo will arrive, preceded by the music of the Burgos-Dalmasso and Andrada-Waldheim duo respectively.

On the last day, the Symphony Orchestra of the province, directed by maestro Andrés Acosta, will perform original music by the notable guitarist and great composer Obi Homer. Heir to a dynasty of prominent Cordoba musicians, son of the great guitarist Lalo Homer, and nephew of Daniel Homer, Obi has participated as musical arranger and session player in numerous productions by Argentine and international artists such as Armando Manzanero, Mercedes Sosa, Alfredo Zitarrosa, Paz Martínez , Abel Pintos and Jorge Rojas.   

One week after the end of the festival, more precisely on March 25, 26, 27 and 28 at 9:30 p.m. , the concerts will be broadcast by the Córdoba Culture Agency networks to be enjoyed virtually and free of charge . They can be seen through Youtube CulturaCBA and facebook.com/cba.cultura

One of the objectives of the Jazz Festival has been to reach the entire province with its music. Fulfilling this prerogative, it has been possible to expand the distribution of these events, and thus allow to have a truly provincial festival. Along this path, during this new edition of the festival, 12 locations will be part of the program with the presentation of outstanding artists: Muriel Marco ND will perform at Villa Las Rosas; the group Jam in Oncativo, Alapar in San Francisco, Celina Luna and Edu Elia in Villa María. Meanwhile, in Río Cuarto, they will do the same Juli Lepori & Quitapanes, Miles Band, Not so trio and Swing 69. The cities of Alta Gracia, Unquillo, Río Ceballos, Río Segundo, La Carlota, Cruz also make up this grid of provincial headquarters. del Eje and Villa General Belgrano.

In the words of the President of the Agency Nora E. Bedano “the Festival makes it possible to bring to the general public one of the most creative and influential musical genres of popular music, and it is an excellent opportunity to make local figures visible and promote the growth of our talented artists. In addition, as with all the policies of the Córdoba Culture Agency, the decision is to cause the mobility of our federalized artists, the proposal that are present throughout the province territory. In this way we are also building new audiences and reaching citizens from all over Cordoba. ”
