Russia launches the largest drone strike in Kiev since it invaded Ukraine

This is the fourteenth Russian drone strike in Kiev since the beginning of May. At least two people were killed.

Russia carried out on Saturday night and early Sunday morning (28.05.2023) the largest drone attack on Kiev since it launched the invasion 15 months ago, leaving at least two people dead, military and regional authorities said.

“In total, a record number of explosive drones launched was recorded – 54,” the Ukrainian air force specified on Telegram, saying it had “destroyed 52.”

“This is the most significant drone attack on the capital since the beginning of the Russian invasion,” the regional military administration lamented on Telegram. “It unfolded in several waves and the airborne alert lasted more than 5 hours.”

According to the regional administration, “after the destruction of the drones” Russian “debris fell on a seven-story building” in the Golosivsky neighborhood, killing one person and injuring another.

A fire also broke out in a warehouse area, spreading flames over 1,000 m2, injuring one man, according to the same source. In the Solomianski district, a 41-year-old man died and a 35-year-old woman was also hospitalized, according to Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

This is the 14th Russian drone attack in Kiev since the beginning of May, according to authorities.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Vladimir Putin’s regime was targeting “military facilities and strategic infrastructure in the central regions of the country, in particular in the Kiev region.”
