A little over a month ago, the opposition parties in Venezuela took the decision, with the complacency of the United States, to put an end to the interim government they presided over. Juan Guaido. They were warned, ad nauseam, of the negative consequences of this initiative; they were told no one wanted this more than the narco dictator Maduro; they were asked, almost on their knees, to trade at least that terrible proposition for something equally important.

None of this helped. Under the auspices of Julio Borges, which had been seeking for several years to end the caretaker government; with the pleasure of Manuel Rosales, who is in Maduro’s pocket; of Henry Ramos, through his political operator, Luis Aquiles, and the sold by Tomás Guanipa they pushed the Assembly to end the caretaker government.

A call from White House Security Council or of state department any of them would have made this decision; but no, they remained silent, they preferred to fight among themselves, as they have done since the installation of this administration, and they let this decision be executed.

The effects were not long in coming. The first, the members of the Assembly were left without a salary, and now they are crying, but they have made the decision. Secondly, they lost their representation before the countries which had recognized them and, consequently, the handling of issues such as prosecution for gold held in england oh control of Citgo in the United States they were in the air. Thirdly, the narco dictatorship recovered international political oxygen, which was consolidated with the arrival of Petro and Lula power in Colombia and Brazil. Any kind of international counterbalance against Maduro and his cronies has been lost.

Therefore, it is impossible to understand how people with a deep understanding of this international issue, such as Brian Nicholsin the state departmentor the same Juan González, at the White House, did not realize the adverse effects of such an erroneous decision. I don’t know if it was resentment that this policy came from Asset and it had to be finished, which guided this performance, but the truth is that the role of the two characters mentioned, plus that of Jimmy’s storyambassador to the interim government, are an example of a comedy of errors where the egos, the balance of power and the smallness of certain officials create a tangle in which everyone is harmed (including the interests of the United States ), and whose only profit is the villain of the film.

It’s almost a case study of how things shouldn’t be done and how arrogance and incompetence lead to political disasters like this. Wednesday of this week, Mark Wellsof state departmentI was in Spain trying to straighten out this mess, asking Dinorah Figuerathe President of the Assembly, to take the head of the interim government which they themselves, by their vanity, their stubbornness and their stupidity, contributed to overthrow.

There is no right. However, that does not rule out the egos, corruption and airs of grandeur of the Venezuelan opposition that played into this case. Since Borges, and I repeat it because he has been at the head of this plot since 2019, until Leopoldo Lopezwho complied, instead of fighting against this decision with all their political capital, are responsible for this fiasco.

The truth is that the opposition leaders deserve their chance, since they have shown how small they are, but the Venezuelans do not deserve to have these personalities who can sell them for a piece of bread, like Tomas Guanipa and others equal to him, or hand them over for a bit of power, as Rosales did. Venezuela deserves another leadership that is neither corrupt nor afraid. It is not easy at all, since the narco-regime has been responsible for frightening, murdering, disappearing, imprisoning and buying off many opponents; For this reason, when we finally have a partially united and legitimate group, as the G4 was with the interim government, that those responsible for UNITED STATES have not understood the importance of this instrument as a mechanism of action is incomprehensible.

Maduro He had only one objective in his foreign policy since 2019 and that was to complete the interim. Yes, the legitimacy of the narco-regime had been undermined, but when a myopic, vain and useless opposition decides to throw it overboard, we hope at least that experienced, serious and prepared leaders, as we would expect those of state department or of White House Security Council, succeed in stopping such nonsense.

Well no. They cheered him on, having no idea what was about to happen. They didn’t see the consequences and now they are trying to fix their own mistake. Maybe it happens when a government, instead of putting their major league team on the line, decides, for whatever reason, to put one from the minor leagues, which barely passes the test.

Now comes the recomposition of this interim government that does not have an actor within Venezuela, like Guaidó, which reduces the impact and legitimacy of the figure. Let’s hope that Mrs. Figuera does not become, just, a company in the service of Julio Borges, because there yes, turn off and go. This interim presidency has only one objective this year: to organize the most massive primaries possible and create a new leadership within the opposition.

May this debate, if Maduro and the thugs around him allow it, be the rebirth of a vigorous opposition, ready to fight in the streets, because of free and fair elections, where there is an opportunity to beat the ruling mafia. , they will not give. The opposition can’t be wrong.

In the meantime, let’s hope that the minor league team grows and rises, that its players pull themselves together, understand that they have to work together, take risks and not leave the continent with a Cuba on steroids working with the mafias of the drugs in the service of destabilizing the region.
