The Armed Forces of Poland and the United States have begun joint exercises in the southeast of the European country, as announced on Sunday by the Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

“Over the weekend, soldiers from the 18th Mechanized Division began joint exercises with soldiers from the US 82nd Airborne Division in southeastern Poland. We are constantly reinforcing security on NATO’s eastern flank “, the minister wrote on his Twitter account.

In the last two weeks, the United States has been increasing its contingent in Poland, first with a transfer of 1,700 troops , then with a shipment of 3,000 . Before the additional deployment, nearly 5,000 US military personnel were already in the country as part of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance.

The reinforcement comes amid the new wave of tensions between Washington and its NATO allies and Russia in relation to the situation in Ukraine.

Since last November, several top Western officials and media outlets have claimed that Moscow plans to  invade Ukraine , reports that have intensified in recent weeks, suggesting an ‘imminent’ war.

In recent weeks, various Western countries supplied  weapons and instructors  to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which positioned themselves as helping the nation against the Russian invasion, as   Western media propaganda has been claiming.

The Kremlin has repeatedly refuted these claims and warned that  Ukraine’s militarization  is both aggravating the political crisis within the country and threatening stability in Europe.
