Asuncion, 20 Feb. Paraguay confirmed the first case of monkeypox in a woman on Monday, bringing the number of people infected with the disease to 104, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Affairs reported.

The woman, aged between 40 and 50 and who does not suffer from comorbidities, lives in the Center department, one of the most populous in the country, the health office said in a statement.

The patient required hospitalization for pain management and has already been discharged. The note said he had a fever, sore throat, muscle aches and rashes.

According to the Ministry of Health, the woman is “in good clinical condition and is under surveillance”.

Figures from the General Directorate of Sanitary Surveillance indicate that with this case, there are 104 confirmed monkeypox infections in the country, of which 103 correspond to men.

So far, 171 suspected cases have been ruled out and two more are under investigation.

The center records the highest number of infections (61%), followed by the country’s capital, Asunción (38%).
