NASA has announced the launch date for Artemis 2, which will take humans around the Moon

More than half a century later, the Nasa confirmed that he already has a date for his mission with which he plans to take the To be human around the Moon.

After the success of the first mission Artemis 1which ended on December 11 after just over 25 days in spacenow the space agency is preparing for this event, very similar to the one that happened in 1972.

Artemis 2 is scheduled for the end of November 2024confirmed the associate administrator at NASA, jim free, at a press conference on Tuesday. Although the details of this expedition are still unknown, it is believed that during this year the agency will announce the four crew members that they will go on the boat which will orbit the satellite for ten days.

“We are looking for this Artemis 2 crew,” Free added, although it was previously reported that one of them will be Canadian. “For the moment nothing stops us after what we have learned with Artemis 1”he pointed out.

This first mission – which recently returned to Earth – lasted almost a month during which it was successfully tested that the Orion capsule could fly over without occupants and powered by the new SLS rocket – the most powerful in the world -. It orbited the Moon – exactly 12.8 kilometers from it, according to Howard Hu, Orion’s program manager – without issue.

“We have traveled further than any spacecraft in the past, reaching a distance of 434,000 kilometers from our planet. It was quite an achievement, an incredible journey that exceeded expectations”, he celebrated .

Based on this positive experience, NASA plans to launch the second mission in a year and a half and, thirdsome twelve months after the end of the second -about in 2025-. On this third trip yes, astronauts should land at the south pole of the Moon.

“Our plan has always been 12 months but there is important developments it must be done”, warned Free on these dates likely to be modified as events unfold.

For example, according to the administrator, “we need a student“, as well as “of our combinationsspace, all that without which it will not be possible to carry out the exploration of the lunar surface.

Regarding the second, the company Axiom space is still in the phase of developmentso -for the moment- no other information is known about these essential clothes for astronauts.

NASA’s goal with these projects is to establish a permanent presence on the Moon and for this they plan to build a base and a space station in orbit around the satellite.

Thanks to the permanence on the lunar surface, it will be possible to test the new technologies needed for longer journeyslike the round trip of a crew to Marten.
