In Mexico, the candidate for mayor of Moroleón, Alma Rosa Barragán, was assassinated this Tuesday, according to Carlos Castaneda, national coordinator of the Citizen Movement party.

“I am informed that a few moments ago our candidate for mayor of Moroleón, was murdered and two more people were injured,” Castaneda wrote on Twitter.

The Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office condemned the incident on Twitter and reported that the incident is being investigated. “The attorney general assigned a cell from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) to assist the Special Homicide Unit in the investigation, clarification and detention of the accused,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

For its part, the Citizen Movement demanded “prompt justice” from the authorities.

It is the second incident in a few days where a candidate from the Citizen Movement party is killed in an attack. On May 14, Cajeme’s mayoral candidate, Abel Murrieta, died after suffering an attack against him, according to the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office.
