Mexico records 782 deaths and 7,512 coronavirus infections in one day

Mexico recorded 782 new deaths from the coronavirus covid-19 in the last 24 hours to accumulate a total of 184,474 deaths with this disease, the Ministry of Health reported this Friday.

In addition, 7,512 new cases were reported for a total of 2,076,882 infections.

With these figures, Mexico It ranks thirteenth in the world in number of infections and third with the most deaths from the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, according to the US Johns Hopkins University.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Mexico 5.41 million patients have been studied, indicated the director of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortés, at a press conference at the National Palace.

In addition, he said, there are 1,625,328 people who are considered recovered.

He reported that the estimated number of cases is 2,271,808 when considering those who await the result of the test or have not had it. Among them, there are 51,983 estimated active cases, that is, 2% of the total that have presented symptoms in the last two weeks.

Until this day there is an average occupation of 30% of general beds in Mexican hospitals that care for patients with covid-19, among which the City of Mexico with 59% occupancy, the highest, and 30 entities have less than 50% occupancy.

Regarding deaths, the Mexican capital, the focus of the pandemic, alone accumulates 18.9% of the total at the country level.

Of the 32 Mexican states, 10 will be at high risk of contagion next week, 20 at medium risk and two, Chiapas and Campeche, at low risk, according to the epidemiological traffic light of the health authorities.

VACCINATION PLAN

At the conference it was reported that so far 2,271,032 doses have been applied against covid-19, while 562,311 people have received the two necessary doses of the Pfizer vaccine to achieve immunity.

This week the health authorities of Mexico reported that between the months of February and May the country will receive a total of 106.1 million vaccines against covid-19, figures that this Thursday the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In the total of February, a month a few days before the end, 3.3 million will arrive; 23.6 million vaccines will be received in March, while in April there will be 33.2 million doses and in May 46 million.

The country, with 126 million inhabitants, has committed 34.4 million doses of the American Pfizer, 79.4 of the British AstraZeneca, 35 of the Chinese CanSino, 24 of the Russian Sputnik V, 10 of the Chinese Sinovac and 51 , 4 from the Covax platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).
