The third wave of COVID-19 infections has already caused havoc in the Oaxaca Coast region. To avoid a collapse in hospitals and more deaths, the authorities tightened sanitary measures, which includes the suspension of all massive activities, from August 9 to 31.
This was decreed this Tuesday during a meeting by the councilors of the municipalities of San Pedro Pochutla, Santa María Huatulco, Santa María Tonameca, Santa María Colotepec, San Miguel del Puerto, Pluma Hidalgo and Villa de Tututepec, as well as officials of the health system of the region.
Among the agreements reached, is the prohibition on the provision of any tourist service and the closure of all beaches, even those of the entity’s emblematic destinations such as Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Zicatela, Zipolite and Mazunte.
During this period, all religious celebrations will also be suspended and Prohibition will be applied.
As for public transport, it will have a 50% occupancy; urban and eight passenger vans, three passenger taxis, two passenger motorcycle taxis.
In addition, the use of face masks will be mandatory; Whoever violates this provision will be fined with an amount of 500 pesos.
To enforce these provisions, the municipal presidents requested the help of the National Guard and the State Police to carry out tours and operations.
