A Civilian dies in Boca del Río, Veracruz after confrontation for Violent eviction from a Protected Natural Area

Last February 12, State agents of the Veracruz police, together with the State Attorney for Environmental Protection, issued an eviction order in the protected area of ​​“La Joya”, in the municipality of Boca del Río, however, unleashed a violent altercation in which a person was killed.

The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of the state of Veracruz related the events through their social networks, and He stressed that at the time the operation was carried out, the people involved resisted leaving the invaded property.

According to the information issued by the authorities, said subjects they began to attack the officers with stones, sticks, machetes, firearms and smoke grenades. Which caused injuries to those present, as well as a civilian killed due to the dispute. Likewise, an element of the police was injured and had to be taken to hospital.

“The SSP reiterates that it will only use force as a last resort and always under the principles of proportionality, respect for human rights and protection of human life,” said the institution.

After the events that occurred, the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX) Veracruz expressed its support for all the initiatives undertaken by the government that aimed to strengthen the rule of law and that they respect the dignity of the people.

Similarly, the organization expressed its condolences towards the relatives of the person who died during the conflict and endorsed its solidarity with the police force that was injured.

“We encourage those involved to seek meeting spaces from which it is possible to reconcile differences and resolve this conflict in the best possible way for the common good. In the same way, we demand that if there are responsible for these events, the law is applied to them and that these events do not go unpunished.”, COPARMEX concluded.

For his part, the Secretary of Public Security of Veracruz, Hugo Gutiérrez Maldonado shared on his Twitter a publication where he clarified that the corresponding investigations will be carried out to clarify the events that occurred.

“Through the SSP, we present operational results from February 10 to 12, registering 26 detainees, including three who attacked our colleagues in Ixtaczoquitlán and one for homicide in Álamo,” said the Secretary of Public Security.
