March 6 (Reuters) – Meta Platforms Inc will begin cutting thousands of jobs from this week in a new round of layoffs, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, just months after Facebook’s parent company announced a cut more than 11,000 jobs in its model.

The new round of job cuts are driven by financial goals and are distinct from “flattening”, according to the article, citing people familiar with the matter.

Meta declined to comment on the Bloomberg article when contacted by Reuters.

Last month, The Washington Post reported that Meta planned to cut jobs as part of a reorganization and downsizing effort.

Meta declined to comment at the time, but spokesman Andy Stone cited in a series of Twitter posts several earlier statements from CEO Mark Zuckerberg suggesting more cuts were on the way.

Meta’s mass layoffs in November, which cut more than 11,000 jobs, were among the largest in the past year and the first in the company’s history. Other tech companies, including Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc and Microsoft Corp, have also cut thousands of jobs.
