Paris, 25 Feb. French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that he would travel to China in early April to discuss the war in Ukraine, following the plan presented by Beijing to open the door to peace negotiations.
During his visit to the Paris Agricultural Show, Macron called on China to “put pressure on Russia” to “end this aggression” and “build peace”.
Macron referred to the plan presented by China to the UN to agree a ceasefire that would allow for negotiations.
However, the French president, who recently called for a defeat of Russia on the battlefield but not a crushing of Moscow, has tightened the field of negotiations.
For Macron, peace will only be possible if Russia “stops the aggression” against Ukraine, “withdraws its troops” and respects “the territorial sovereignty of the Ukrainian people”. EFE
