The King of Jordan, Abdullah II, called on US President Joe Biden to intensify international efforts to halt the escalating conflict between Palestinians and Israelis, according to a statement from the Royal Palace.

Abudallah II spoke to Biden by telephone on Saturday, amid the confrontation between the extremist group Hamas and the Israeli army.

According to the Jordanian Royal Palace, Abdullah spoke with Biden about ways to prevent the conflict from escalating and ways to protect civilians.

According to the Jordanian government, Abdullah warned that the continuation of the conflict would have negative repercussions in the region and stressed the need for restraint, protection of civilians and respect for international humanitarian law.

Israel is experiencing a day of intense clashes after Hamas invaded the south of the country, near the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army retaliated with air strikes on the Gaza Strip. It is the most lethal attack in the country since 1973.
