In February, the consumer price index of the city of Buenos Aires (IPCBA) reached 6%, thus accumulating over the first two months of the year an increase of 13.7% and recording an interannual variation of 103 .1%.
This change in the IPCBA is mainly explained by increases in the following divisions: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, Restaurants and hotels, Health and Leisure and culturewhich together explain 76.6% of the increase in the general level.
o Housing, water, electricity and gas recorded a variation of 8.5% compared to the previous month, due to adjustments in the values of common housing charges and rents. Next come increases in the residential rate for electricity service. This item recorded an interannual variation of 113.6%.
o Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded an average increase of 7.7%. The main increase came from Meat and derivatives (15.2%). To a lesser extent, the increases in Bread and cereals (5.7%), Milk, dairy products (6.3%) and Fruits (11.3%) stood out. This item recorded an interannual variation of 104.4%.
o Restaurants and hotels posted an average increase of 5.9%, due to higher prices for prepared foods in restaurants, bars and eateries. This item recorded an interannual variation of 120.8%.
o Health showed a change from the previous month of 6.8% due to increases in prepaid drug costs and adjustments to drug values. This item recorded an interannual variation of 99.5%.
o Recreation and culture recorded an increase of 8.7%, due to higher prices for tourist packages and recreational and sports services. This item recorded an interannual variation of 104%.
