Ikea has announced the opening on April 26th of a new store in Spain, specifically in Torrejón de Ardoz. Located in the Parque Corredor shopping center, this opening is a further step in the Swedish company’s commitment to the Madrid market and aims to bring design and inspiration to the citizens of the northeast of the Community of Madrid.
With an investment of 10 million euros, this establishment will have an initial staff of around 130 people, half of them from the Corredor de Henares area, and will create around 70 new jobs, with a focus on diversity, inclusion and equality. This team may be increased throughout the year in times of greater demand.
The new store will be the first “XS” store in Spain with a 7,500 square meter store, of which 5,400 square meters are commercial, located at the main entrance of the shopping center. Although smaller in size than its traditional large centers, Ikea wants to offer the same experience and inspiration to the fullest.
It will have a display of more than 5,000 products from all areas of the home, half of them to take away at the moment, and will give access to 100% of the Ikea catalog in 24 hours through the ‘Order & Collect’ service, with which you can order and collect in the store or receive the item at home the next day; and the ‘Click & Collect’ service, by which you can buy online on the website or the app and collect in store.
Within these multichannel shopping dynamics and with the intention of offering an interactive experience and with greater agility, it is also planned that in the store itself you can buy through the Ikea application and, more specifically, the ‘Scan & Go’ functionality, which generates a QR code at the time to pay at the cashier and pick up the purchase in the collection area.
The new Torrejón de Ardoz store will also have a restaurant area, called ‘Swedish Deli’ of more than 500 square meters, with capacity for more than 100 people seated and offering more than 130 Ikea Food specialties.
The Madrid market, a priority for Ikea
This new opening is part of the company’s ambitious expansion plan, in which the Madrid market is, together with Catalonia and Andalusia, one of the company’s priority areas for growth in Spain. In fact, Ikea plans to open a dozen points of contact with the customer in the next two years in the Community of Madrid, with an expected employment of approximately 450 people.
Ikea, as part of its commitment to accessibility, intends to have a physical point of contact less than 15 minutes walk or drive from any Madrid resident. To this end, it has up to five formats that allow it to reach new areas and be closer to consumers in a more functional and specialized way.
The Torrejón store will be the sixth store in Madrid, together with its large stores in Alcorcón, Ensanche de Vallecas and San Sebastián de los Reyes; its two urban stores in Goya and Las Rozas. To this opening will be added the already announced Ikea store in Leganés for the summer, in the Westfield Parquesur shopping center. As well as the planning space it has on Fuencarral street and the different collection points located in Las Rozas and in the neighborhoods of Goya, Embajadores, Tetuán and Chamberí.
