There Congressional Foreign Relations Committeechaired by the legislator Maricarmen Alvasummoned Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi on Tuesday to report on the diplomatic actions undertaken by the government of Dina Boluarte, after the coup orchestrated by Pedro Castillo last December.

The meeting will take place on March 3 and will consider what actions have been taken abroad, so far, “in relation to the political and social situation”, reads the document shared by Alva on its social platforms. “Things are clear,” the lawmaker tweeted.

The official letter was confirmed after this Commission approved by majority to declare to the Colombian President Gustavo Petroas persona non grata and request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration to take corresponding measures to prevent their entry into the country.

The Colombian leader’s motion to reject was a reaction to statements he made over the weekend, when he compared his country’s police authorities to a “Nazi Germany”, like the Peruvian National Police (PNP ).

Alva considered that these expressions are “unacceptable” and constitute an “offense” to the institution, to the Peruvian state and to “all the Jewish people” by “trivializing the Holocaust”. He also clarified that this motion was not intended to “sever diplomatic relations” with Colombia, but insisted that Congress must defend the PNP.

“Expressions of Petro They don’t come from a friendly president. It is impossible for him to say that (…) We must be respected as a country and we must defend our national police,” he said.

A few days after the coup, the Peruvian government allowed the family of Pedro Castillo Mexico can apply for asylum, despite declaring that country’s ambassador “persona non grata” and asking him to leave.

Gervasi then said heThe decision was in response to “repeated expressions” by Mexico “about the political situation in Peru which constitute interference in our internal affairs”.

Ties between the two nations began to unravel when, in late 2021, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador pleaded for Castillo, lashing out at congressional attempts to impeach him.
