After an exhausting week, this Tuesday the hello heat said ‘goodbye’, momentarily, in the City of Buenos Aires. Although the phenomenon has been interrupted, the area is still under red alert for extreme temperatures, like some municipalities in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. As reported by National Weather Service (SMN), relief arrives this Friday with a marked drop in thermal marks.

The agency explained that while the high temperatures will continue, it will no longer be a heat wave. In this sense, the forecast maximums will be around 33, 34 and 36 degrees until Friday, when they should drop slightly after the rotation of the south wind.

“For there to be a heat wave, there must be at least three consecutive days with minimum and maximum temperatures at certain thresholds, which vary in each district. In the city of Buenos Aires, the minimum must exceed 22 degrees and the maximum, 32. But the minimum was only 21.8″, said SMN meteorologist Cindy Fernández, to explain the end of this phenomenon.

This situation will affect other cities in Buenos Aires that will be affected by the red alert: Esteban Echeverría, Ezeiza, La Matanza, Merlo, Brandsen, Cañuelas, Magdalena, San Vicente, Berisso, Ensenada, La Plata, Almirante Brown, Avellaneda, Berazategui, Florencio Varela, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, President Perón and Quilmes.

Additionally, central and western Entre Ríos province and northern Buenos Aires have amber alerts for extreme temperatures, which can be “very dangerous, especially for at-risk groups.” In the case of the capital of Entre Ríos, a maximum of 36 degrees is expected for the day and in the city of Córdoba 35 degrees are expected.

According to the temperature classification of 18, published by the SMN, in the province of Buenos Aires the highest temperature was recorded in Merlo with 32.5°, followed by Ezeiza at 32.3°, Moreno by 32°, Flowers with 31.9 and the CABA at 30.9°.

After a week of extreme heat, the SMN maintains that relief will begin to be felt in the region on Friday. The same will be extended until Saturday, but on Sunday the high thermal marks will return. “This Friday, a slight drop in temperatures is expected because a cold front will advance in the day which will turn the wind to the south and the temperatures will drop a little,” explained Fernández.

In addition, the specialist explained that with this facade, a little drier air will enter, the environment will become a little less annoying. Although the highs can exceed 30 degrees, temporary showers are not excluded either. “This relief will take place on Friday and Saturday, and by Sunday the north wind will return and the temperatures will rise with maximums between 32 and 35 degrees”, warned the meteorologist.

Of the entire national territory, the central strip is one of those that will be very hot until Thursday. Indeed, with the south wind, the temperatures will drop a little, but on Saturday with the north wind, they will rise again a lot.

A heat wave is an excessively hot period, which can have a mild to very high impact on health, especially for groups at risk, such as boys and girls, and people over 65 with chronic diseases. such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, diabetes and obesity.

Faced with this type of phenomenon, the Ministry of Health reiterated a series of recommendations due to high temperatures such as: the use of sunscreen, hydration, drinking water even when you are not thirsty, wear loose clothing, avoid sun exposure, wear a hat, eat fruits and vegetables and avoid strenuous physical activity.
