Education as a guarantor of freedom

Argentine citizens are characterized by resilience, never giving up and always looking for a way forward. We don’t want anyone to give us anything, on the contrary, we want all the efforts we make every day to be rewarded, to be worth it.

However, the populism who has governed us for sixteen of the last twenty years, has always insisted on putting obstacles in the way of those who want to work out their life project according to their effort. They don’t want free citizens, they want them dependent on a paternalistic state that tells them how to live and what to think.

The “Education at a Glance” report prepared by the OECD explains that today almost one in four young Argentinians aged 18 to 24 neither study nor work. In turn, it shows that in the population between 25 and 29 years old, 35% of those who have not completed high school are “Neither nor”. A figure that drops to 9% for those who have completed higher education. What does this tell us? That providing a better education means more job opportunities. In this sense, we must create new instances so that everyone can complete their studies.

In the City, since 2007, we have been developing a long-term project to achieve a cultural transformation that succeeds in claiming education and work as engines of society. We do this because we trust people, because we know that if opportunities arise, people will take advantage of them.

I am proud to say that today the City is an example for the whole country, a sign that there is a political alternative that focuses on solving the problems that really matter. Although we still have a lot to delve into. But it is these measures that will really drive change in Argentina. Those that are based on equal opportunities, so that every citizen has the freedom to choose and decide their own future.

This is the rural model that we offer from our space. The one who has confidence in people and their ability to reinvent themselves, the one who rewards work and merit, in short, the one who offers everyone opportunities to progress thanks to their efforts.
