Lorenzo Córdova described the reinstatement as “an act of justice”

After obtaining a provisional suspension by the judge Blanca Lobo Dominguez so that he can resume his activities as head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Edmond Jacobo Molina was greeted with a round of applause which lasted more than forty seconds during the extraordinary session held by the body on Monday 13 March.

The greeting was given when the official approached his place at the collegiate body table, which is located to the left of the councilor president Lorenzo Cordoba vianello. It was upon entering the session room that the applause began, which caused the professional philosopher to be moved and, with a reverence, appreciated displays of affection people present.

Likewise, the photographers of the current press, as well as the institutional ones, quickly rushed to the scene to be able to frame the situation, since the official had left his post after the publication of Plan B in electoral matters in the Official Journal of the Federation (DDL), because in the amendments of the secondary laws, they specified that a new person must occupy the said position.

Once the session began, the adviser to the president took the floor and celebrated that it was the court that had approved the return of Jacobo Molina to his postas he has indicated that he is a “proven, honest and committed” public servant.

However, he stressed that it was his Mexican state that allegedly violated the rights of the executive secretary of the INE, despite the fact that Mexican democracy and the electoral system owe much of their structure to the work of Edmundo Jacobo.

“With the resolution of the Judiciary of the Federation to which I have referred and the definitive suspension that has been granted to the Executive Secretary of INE, Edmundo Jacobo Molina, an act of justice is rendered who reinstates in his functions an honest, honest and committed civil servant, to whom the electoral system and democracy owe a lot”, he declared in his address.

However, his position does not stop there, since he affirms that the resolution in favor of his colleague from the General Council of the electoral authority also represents an act preserve the autonomy and independence of the institute given the modifications that have been made in this matter, directed by the Executive Power and which have been approved in both chambers of the Congress of the Union.

“This event, although in itself fundamental, is much more than a simple legal act for the restitution of the rights of a person, to whom they have been violated by a power of the Mexican State in an unconstitutional way, this event constitutes also and clearly, to safeguard the autonomy and independence of the INE”

Subsequently, Jacobo Molina took the floor and, once again, thanked him for the support and expressions of affection he received after his absence from INE; however, he stressed that the time will come for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and the Federal Judicial Election Tribunal (TEPJF) define what the future of Plan B will be, i.e. whether or not it is attached to the Constitution Politics of the United Mexican States (CPEUM).

“It is time for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation, in their respective spheres, to define whether electoral reform, known as Plan B, clings to the constitutional framework. How the elections are organized in the coming years will depend on what the two bodies define,” he said.
