the ravages of Cyclone Yakustill present on the Peruvian coasts, has harmed different regions of the country. Huaicos, floods, heavy rainsamong other events, were reported not only in the capital – where more than two thousand families were affected – but also throughout the north of the country.
In the latter, at least four provinces in critical condition: La Libertad, Piura, Lambayeque and Tumbes.
So far, according to the National Civil Defense Institute (undecided), the first three provinces accumulate a total of thirteen dead and more than ten thousand compromised addresses.
The president of the Republic, In Boluarte, announced new measures to curb these situations. With its ministerial cabinet, headed by the Prime Minister Alberto Otarolanoted that even the private sector will “stand up” and provide support.
“We will also do a nationwide support crusade, in areas where there were postings. We also want to say that we are attentive to every request from mayors and governors,” the dignitary said.
On the other hand, the leader of Indeci, Carlos Yáñezassured that the closest approach of the cyclone -from the Peruvian coasts- “was 500 km and that currently it is at 1100 km, planned to keep moving away.”
“It influenced the evolution and intensity of the rains resulting in the activation of 32 streams in Lima, causing property damage. This is worrying because the soils are saturated in areas like Chosica, Ñaña and San Juan de Lurigancho; besides, decision it has been isolated, which is why Peruvian army machines are sent as reinforcements,” he said on Wednesday the 15th.
Yáñez added that the cleaning and rehabilitation works so that citizens, as soon as possible, can resume their daily activities.
Indeci also warned that at least 592 districts, north coast and mountains, remain at risk before Cyclone Yaku.
The specified entity, through the National Center for Disaster Risk Assessment, Prevention and Reduction (Cenepred), that these cities are in danger due to possible huaicos, landslidesamong other types of consequences due to heavy rains.
Cenepred drew these conclusions after the precipitation moderate to extreme intensity, predicted by the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (senamhi), included in weather advisory n°46 from March 12 to 16.
In very high risk the following provinces are located:
