Portlan, Oregon, USA is a small coastal town known for its wide beaches and long boardwalk, however, Lately, it has also been known to be a drug stronghold of the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel in the United States.

Undercover work by local detective John Walker uncovered a methamphetamine trafficking ring that stretched from Michoacán to Portland, and from there to various towns in the neighboring country to the north.

The leader of this network is a Mexican from Michoacán identified as Victor Alvarez Farfanresponsible for moving large quantities of methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl across the border since at least October 2017.

Álvarez Farfán had previously been convicted of federal drug charges in the United States and deported at least twice, but he managed to return to the country. We know that he used at least five pseudonyms on the other side of the border.

He and Helida Montes, his partner of 16 years, raised their two children in Oregon City while Farfan expanded his drug business, in which two of his nephews were also involved.

According to the investigation, in just six months, smugglers smuggled nearly two kilos of fentanyl across the border, which translates to approximately one million lethal doses.

Farfan’s drug ring also shipped drugs to Gresham, east of Portland, as well as Hood River, a Columbia River port an hour northeast of Portland, and north of Tacoma, Washington. .

Robert Hammer, a special agent in charge of homeland security investigations in Seattle, said The Mail Log that the cartels take advantage of Highway 5 Corridor, a straight road from the border post of San Ysidro to the north, passing through Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and up to Vancouver (Canada).

Investigators uncovered three main pieces of the puzzle that revealed insight into how this drug ring thrived. First, the Mexican cartel suppliers established a distribution network in the Portland area. From there, Víctor Farfán and his entourage provided the drug dealer John Armas not Hillsboro.

Armas, in turn, supplied the former nurse and other dealers who moved the drug west to Seaside and other Clatsop communities. Farfán introduced at least 20 kilos of methamphetamine, half a kilo of heroin and almost two kilos of fentanyl.

After agents took down the Oregon drug ring in 2018 and arrested 23 suspects, there were killings in Mexico that US investigators say were intended to scare and silence potential witnesses in the Portland affair.

Farfán obtained the drugs from members of the CJNG in Michoacán, the birthplace of its leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho”, who has been in hiding for years and is on the DEA’s most wanted list.
