Carlos Slim denied business concerns about AMLO’s energy policy and urged the acceleration of TMEC agreements

As part of his last day of his tour of United States (US), President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO)held a meeting with Mexican and American businessmen.

From the Mexican Cultural Center, in Washington the Mexican president and his entourage attended the meeting, in which participants such as Francis Cervantes president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and the tycoon, Carlos Slim Helu.

In a meeting with the press, the Mexican denied the alleged concerns from American businessmen to energy policies of Lopez Obrador. On the contrary, he stated optimism to continue investing in the sector.

Among the agreements I would highlight the investment of 40 billion USD that will be carried out between “this date” and 2024, as revealed by the chancellor, Marcelo Ebrardwho participated in the meeting on July 13,

For his part, director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Oropezaconfirmed that they were addressed energy issuesincluding what was commented by López Obrador and Joe Biden last Tuesday.

In this sense, he affirmed that – if the negotiations materialize – there would be talk of investments of “many billions of dollars”. In addition to this, he confirmed that US businessmen expressed doubts about energy policy from Tabasco, but ruled out any type of claim or complaint.

For his part, the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier affirmed, without going into details, that US investments will go to projects developed on norte of the Republic; in the gulf of california with a “very important sector”, and in the southeast where “the Transístmico will be preponderant”, he declared to the press.
