SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil will be a candidate to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027, the country’s sports ministry announced Tuesday.

The ministry said on Twitter that the country’s bid “is being prepared by the government and sports entities”, including the Brazilian Football Confederation.

The mayors of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo have said they want their cities to host the final if Brazil win.

Brazil hosted the Men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014.

This year’s Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand.

FIFA are due to announce the venue for 2027 next year.

“We started working on this project. We have until March to express our interest and until May to file it,” Sports Minister Ana Moser told GE’s website. “We are in consultation with the Brazilian confederation and (possible) cities hosts.”
